Wireless in Charlotte

March 13th, 2003  |  Published in IRE

Originally this year’s NICAR conference in Charlotte was to be held at one hotel but was moved to the Charlotte Hilton & Towers. Am I ever glad it was: upon arrival, we went to the hotel bar and were given free ethernet cables (of course we had our laptops with us) and then the hotel IT guys came by to tell us that they were setting up a wireless network that evening. All free – and part of a plan by Hilton and Intel to roll out wireless access points in dozens of hotels. Who knew Charlotte would be one of the first? More reports once the NICAR conference gets underway today.
