Best Practices Panels at NICAR

November 6th, 2004  |  Published in IRE

IRE asked for suggestions for next year’s NICAR and IRE annual conferences, so here’s mine:

I wanted to see what people thought of having some panels organized around practical rather than thematic topics. For example, having a SQL Server Best Practices panel with 1-2 people who have come up with administrative or task-specific tips and suggestions. You could do the same thing for mapping programs or Excel or pretty much any topic where you could assemble 2-3 people who have expertise. Instead of taking a “how-I-did-the-story” approach, these panels could explain how certain tools were used to overcome common (or uncommon) tasks, followed by Q&A on the use of that tool.

If you have comments or ideas, send your thoughts to IRE (or jump on the listserv, as I think we should have a conversation about this stuff).
