Shaila Dewan, Marjorie Connelly and Andrew Lehren of the New York Times report on the results of a survey of more than 300 Katrina evacuees, finding that “most evacuees say they have not found a permanent place to live, have depleted their savings and consider their life worse than before the hurricane.” The paper drew a sample of names from a Web database of more than 160,000 evacuees compiled by the Red Cross. The paper also published its methodology.
