New DOCS Features and Background

November 15th, 2006  |  Published in Miscellany

Today, with some help, I added more RSS feeds to the DOCS, including feeds for individual topics, sources and bylines. Thanks to several colleagues and friends who made helpful suggestions for the site; keep ‘em coming. And big thank-you to Adrian Holovaty, who provided lots of advice and troubleshooting assistance (it’s nice to have Django’s lead developer in the same company).

I also wanted to explain a little more about what you’ll be seeing in that database. First, not every story that’s been posted on The Scoop will be in DOCS. I’ve decided to narrow the focus to stories that have a clear CAR element to them, whether based on an analysis of existing records or construction of a new database. Also, some urls will or have expired and I haven’t always been able to find replacement urls (although surprisingly, the Internet Wayback Machine has been useful). So if you don’t see your paper or favorite reporter, that’s probably the issue.
