AIG New York Political Contributions

New York Utility Tax Breaks

Mike McAndrew of the Syracuse Post-Standard, with assistance from Jeff Rea and Michelle Breidenbach, used state records to find that utility company NRG Energy received a $22 million tax break from New York state, but the firm “did almost nothing to deserve it. Bradenton Day Care Facilities

Duane Marsteller of the Bradenton Herald used state data to illustrate “the thousands of violations that state regulators have found in Manatee County day care centers in the past two years.” The overwhelming majority of the 4,122 violations at the county’s 101 facilities were minor infractions such as incomplete paperwork or missing items from bathrooms.

Ramsey County Judicial Election

Tim Nelson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, with CAR assistance from MaryJo Sylwester, mapped the results of the Ramsey County judicial primary on Sept. 12, posting the map and other data on paper’s City Hall Scoop blog. The results showed a broad city-suburban split in the vote.

Oklahoma Campaign Contributors

Mick Hinton, Randy Krehbiel and Curtis Killman of the Tulsa World used state campaign finance data to find the top donors to Oklahoma elections during the current cycle.
