FEC Utilities
A series of Python scripts for processing Federal Election Commission data. Grew out of some earlier work listed below.

Previous Projects

FECElecFilings
These scripts download lists of electronic filings from the Federal Election Commission based on several criteria and output pipe-delimited text files suitable for importing into a database.

FECNewsRSS
A Python script that scrapes the Federal Election Commission’s Website to retrieve information from news releases and creates an RSS feed from them.

IRE/NICAR Presentations
A collection of handouts and writings about campaign finance and computer-assisted reporting from various IRE and NICAR events and publications.

SLA Presentations
A collection of handouts and writings from the 2004 Special Libraries Association conference.

Who Posts to NICAR-L?
Pretty much done on a lark, this analysis of postings to NICAR-L in October 2003 and updated in May 2004 generated interest and amusement on the list. It’s also an example of the usefulness of curl and regular expressions.
